Hey robtronik what keyboard functions do you have your shuttle pro set up to do? this is the only piece (playlist selection) that causes me to have to touch the computer at all. The only thing I wish worked in 2.6 was the F key shortcuts for playlists. I've got this thing set up to the point that I don't have to touch my keyboard to select tracks, load them, loop, pitch correction, etc. NI should hook up with these cats and do a special set up for it. Adds a bit of physicality to the whole DJ process as it bypasses having to strike a key. I've set the middle scroll piece to select tracks and the knob piece for pitch bend adjusts. It has 15 assignable buttons, and a nice knob with a good feel. So, I've set it up to mimic keyboard commands (as opposed to MIDI that most external remotes will probably use). I have a Novation Remote25 keyboard, but that thing is too honkin' big to bring to a gig WITH A LAPTOP and FS AMP too.

it is one of the smallest, and full featured, devices of its kind, IMO. It hooks up via USB and is shaped to fit your hand resting on it. Last is the length of the cord - about 4 feet. You also must select each axis, make your move and then select the next axis - unlike use of a joystick plug-in. On the downside - it's really flat so it's not really easy to pickup off a flat surface without using the cord.

The Mach3 plug-in was super simple - download the plug-in from the Mach3 support side, start Mach3 and pick the functions you want to assign. I was completely impressed with the ability to make the finest of adjustments such as setting the Z flush with the material surface without running into it - something hard to do with the keyboard. The same applies to the inner (silver) rotating dial - instead, moving at hundredths of an inch as opposed to tens or inches at a time with the outer ring. The outer (black) rotating dial is proportional - turn it faster and the selected axis moves faster. I setup buttons for ref all, feed rate, zeroing and reset. I just setup the Contour Shuttle Pro with my current CNC machine and I have to agree - the Shuttle Pro is really nice.
